shoulders hurt
Definition
Any pain in or near the shoulder joint is referred to as shoulder pain.
Alternative Names Shoulder pain
Considerations
The human body's shoulder joint has the greatest range of motion. The shoulder's extensive range of motion is provided by the rotator cuff, a collection of four muscles and their tendons.
Shoulder pain may be brought on by rotator cuff swelling, injury, or bone changes. When you raise your arm above your head or move it in front of or behind your back, you might experience pain.
Causes
When rotator cuff tendons get caught under the shoulder's bony area, shoulder pain is most frequently the result. The tendons swell up or sustain damage. It is also known as bursitis or tendinitis of the rotator cuff.
Additional factors that could result in shoulder pain include:
Inflammation of the shoulder joint
bone growths near the shoulder
Bursitis is an inflammation of the bursa, a fluid-filled sac that typically cushions the joint and facilitates smooth movement.
shoulder fracture
An injury to the shoulder
shoulder distance
When the muscles, tendons, and ligaments inside the shoulder stiffen, movement becomes painful and difficult, and this condition is known as frozen shoulder,
Overuse or damage to neighbouring tendons, such as those in the arm's biceps muscles
shoulder movement that is irregular due to nerve damage
Tendon tears in the rotator cuff
poor mechanics and posture of the shoulders

When to Consult a Medical Expert
There are situations when sudden left shoulder pain signals a heart attack. If you experience abrupt pressure or crushing pain in your shoulder, especially if it radiates from your chest to your left jaw, arm, or neck, or if it is accompanied by shortness of breath, vertigo, or sweating, call 911 or your local emergency number.
How to Prepare for Your Office Visit
During the physical examination, your doctor will pay careful attention to your shoulder. In order for the provider to fully comprehend your shoulder issue, you will be questioned.
To aid in the diagnosis, a doctor might prescribe blood or imaging tests like x-rays or MRIs.
In order to address shoulder pain, your doctor could advise:
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs)
corticosteroid injections, an anti-inflammatory drug
Exercise therapy
if no other therapies are effective, surgery
Your doctor may advise self-care procedures if you have rotator cuff issues.
